    Greetings,

Apologies if this isn't the correct place for this posting.

I have this growing in my yard and attacking the treated wood and fencepost.

Any help identifying it and advice on remedying it is appreciated!

    Hello there,

From the details in the first photo, this looks like a species of Antrodia (a brownrotter or cellulose eater), but I can't be certain. Does it smell pleasantly, perhaps strongly, fragrant?

Generally by the time fungi form fruiting bodies on wood they have suffused throughout the wood inside, so removing or treating the fruiting body on the surface is unlikely to be of benefit.

It is hard to guess about the fourth photo of white on the ground, without more structure details. It could be something emerging from something under the surface of the soil, a mold growing on something else, or perhaps a slime mold.

    I hope that is helpful,
    cheers,
    frog

    Thanks for the info Frog.

I finally got around to taking a sniff and noticed no real smell either pleasant or not.

I have noticed in the past that it smelled like skunk in the area but not sure whether that's related to this growth or not.

Any advice on how to address this growth?

I'm guessing i should dig up and discard all the surrounding soil/plants. Is there a wood treatment that i could try on the wood to try to save it?

    many thanks
    albert.
