I am investigating charcoal from archaeological sites in Syria and recently came across a possible fungi in the vessels of Vitis wood. I would be really interested whether it are indeed fungi and whether it grew before or afterwards the wood was cut (see SEM picture in attachment). I also would like to know the name of the fungi and its possible impact on the vine.

    Thanks in advance!

I've passed your question along to one of the professors here who might send it to a few colleagues. Keep your fingers crossed!
