Fungi domesticate Cyanobacteria in Lichens

    Hi,

    I came across this article which might be of interest:



    http://www.amjbot.org/cgi/content/full/96/8/1409 - the authors suggest that that fungi have domesticated and farm the cyanobacteria involved in the lichen symbiosis. The article is technical, but the discussion is easy to read. The full article is available as a pdf for 30 days at no charge.
