Help! I have what I am told is a fruitless pear tree, for the last two years it has developed black leaves. Only a few. I have cut them off and didn't really think it was a problem. Spring has sprung and my poor little tree is covered in black leaves. There is still plenty of green, but the leaves are everywhere and drying. What is this and how do I get rid of it.

Possibly fireblight? If you can post a photo or two, that would help.

Equally, if it is fruitless, not much point in keeping it anyway. Get rid of it and plant something fruitful in its place!
