This photograph was taken in Napo Wildlife Centre Anangu Amazonian Region Ecuador South America in May. May I ask for help with its ID, please? Krystyna
Thank you. You must be correct. I photographed Couroupita guianensis in Botanical Garden in Darwin Northern Territory Australia but tree and flowers were so much bigger that I did not connect the two. also see: http://www.tropilab.com/couroupita.html
It's probably some Grias sp., possibly Grias neuberthii (although the fruit seems a tad too large). Here's a good website providing information about Neotropical Lecythidaceae: Lecythidaceae Pages
It is a piton (Grias neuberthi) tree with fruit and flowers in the Ecuadorian Amazon Napo Wildlife Centre Anangu Ecuador South America. See close-up of friut: http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=57184
