I have just bought an old house with a massive leopard tree in the yard. This tree provides excellent shade for the surrounding garden and house. 3 weeks ago some council workers carried out repairs to the sewer pipes on the neighbouring property. The tree trunk is approximatly 7m from the repairs.Since then my big beautiful tree has lost ALL of its leaves. The same trees in my local area are doing fine.If anyone can give me some advice on what action to take it would be much appreciated. From Oz Rene

Top affected by loss of roots. Tree may already be dead, especially if this is an evergreen species! Could try mulching, watering etc. but since leaves have already dropped probably just have to wait and see.

Rene, most people I know in Brisbane can't get council permission to chop them down!! As they suck all the moisture out of their lawn, roots wreck driveways, footpaths etc and the seed pods are a real pain. Especially in our climate where there is hardly any water!!
Don't get me wrong, I like this tree in someone else's backyard!!
If it is dead, it might be a blessing in disguise for you. There are plenty other good and native trees around. Its a pity if it was providing shade for your house etc. They are quite a nice tree to look at, its a pity the side effects are so bad...
    Good luck anyway
