I have a few Foxtail Agave plants. One is getting too big for my small garden and want to give it away to a friend. It's about 3 feet at it's widest diameter. There are small babies around it that I am keeping and the large one has trailing roots coming out of it's stalk at the base. I live in San Clemente, California so the soil is clay and hard to work with. Can I cut the plant down at the base and put it in another pot making sure the trailing exposed roots at the base is covered and well watered? Will it grow that way, or do I need to somehow pull it out from the roots?

Thanks so much in advance for any advice.

These "trailing roots" wouldn't likely be enough to ensure survival. You'll have to un-earth the beast.

    Cheers, LPN.
