1aa88600-42fa-49b9-9d6e-e9ca15dd76b6.jpg I found what looks like some type of allium growing in a woodland area in SW Ontario.

It looked like clumps of grasses but as I walked over them I smelled garlic or onion.

Picked a handful and confirmed it has a strong garlicky oniony smell.

Is this a native allium or an invasive species?

I am thinking to cook food with some. I read online that any plant that tastes like onion or garlic is edible, any thoughts?

It looks like green onion but smells more like garlic.

This looks more like cultivated garlic or leeks; cultivated onions have tubular leaves. It might be Allium canadense, which should smell more like onion than garlic. A strong garlic odour is associated with A. vineale, but this species has tubular leaves. The photos and description match cultivated garlic best, but the plants look too mature for Ontario at this time of year.
