flowering schrub, bush, tree; what is it ?

    I was out the other day in the nature reserve around Lake Neuchatel, Switzerland and came across this flower. The plant appears to be a short woody bush (you can see a bit of the "branch" in the picture. the flowers are quite small as this was taken close in with a 100mm macro lens. The flowers are probably less than 1/2" across.

    Thanks yet again. That's a big help and the responses are quite quick. And it is very useful to know that this plant is very toxic and can cause skin rash just by handling.
