My family lived in Acadia Park family housing at UBC a few years ago, and there were the most magnificent white flowering cherries outside our residence. I have done a little research, and believe they may be Mount Fuji, but am wondering if anyone is able to supply a definitive identity. They had flat tops, and large, single white blossoms.

    Thanks for the help.

'Shirotae' is very common and thus highly likely. It is just coming out in some Seattle neighborhoods right now. However, there are a great many kinds of Sato Zakura, often closely similar to one another. Especially at a facility like UBC there is always the possibility of encountering one of the rarer ones.

Perhaps the planting is mentioned in Dr. Straley's Vancouver tree guide.
