flowering bush (tree?) identification

    im not very versed in flowers but i would like to found out about this bush (tree) its over 12 ft tall and the petals on the flowers are about 3 in long lavender on the outside and white inside the center stamen is also lavender and white the flowers are growing straight off the main trunks the branches are growing straight out of the ground in a cluster about 18 - 24 in in size some are 3 in around down to sapling size

    I used to have one, but it died. Someone told me it was called a "Tulip Tree". They're very popular in Southern California.

    i looked up tulip trees but the are all yellow and are huge trees this is almost like a bush the flowers are in full bloom but there are no leaves on it at all

    Well, I suppose I have the common name wrong. The tree I had and see up and down my street flowers just like the one in your photos. Wish I could be of more help - good luck!

    Some call those tulip trees, which confuses it with Lirodendron tulipifera. Also called pink magnolia, tulip magnolia, or saucer magnolia. Magnolia X soulangeana
