I was at work a couple months ago and a coworker mentioned a flower in my vacinity that he would like to plant in his garden at home. Neither one of us knew what kind of plant or flower it was, so I took a few pictures of it and promised to get back to him. I was hoping for some help here... They were found outside the Sandy Springs MARTA station in north Atlanta in mid-November 2009.
As this Camellia was flowering in mid November I would suspect that it is more likely to be the early flowering Camellia sasanqua.
There is a red flowering C. sasanqua cv called 'Yuletide' - the blossoms look painfully similar to at least one japonica cv: 'Bob Hope'. We show that one of the differences between sasanqua and japonica is the maximum plant size - 16 feet and 10 feet respectively. I think Silver Surfer is right - any plant in full flower in Nov is not likely fall flowering like the japonicas around here... Any other noteworthy differences?
Luke, think you will find they come in red, pink as well as white. http://images.google.com/images?hl=...+sasanqua&btnG=Search&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g1&start=0 http://images.google.com/imgres?img...textMenu&rlz=1I7SUNA_en-GB&sa=N&start=18&um=1
