Hi, I live in the heart of the Poitou Charente - in the Deux Sevrès region of France - we have many flowers around that I know as some are only regional species but I have spotted a few times along the rivers a very unusual looking plant/flower - if anyone could help I would be delighted!
Welcome PamelaJayne. It looks like Lathraea clandestina. Common name Purple toothwort. http://images.google.co.uk/images?q...GB&redir_esc=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi It is a very interesting plant. It does not produce chlorophyll. Instead it is parasitic on the roots of various tree, usually in moist woods and by rivers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toothwort
That's marvellous thank you so much for your speedy response - I can be happy now! I googled yesterday but just couldn't come up with anything! Thank you I will also tell my Mum as she is racking her brains as well :D
