Hi all. I've got some flowers I would appreciate getting help with in identifying. They are mostly from a massive garden whose owner is letting me collect seeds from and I've never seen them before so I don't know how to start. A few are from a seed mix that I don't have the package for. Edit: the first one is a very deep purple/blue bell type flower with very fringe-like leaves. The second is a tall flower that is brilliant sapphire blue. The last is a shorter bright pink thing.
First two with blue flowers look like Delphiniums. Possibly Delphinium grandiflorum, which has many named cultivars.Common name Siberian larkspur. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delphinium_grandiflorum http://www.google.co.uk/images?um=1...hinium+grandiflorum,&spell=1&biw=1247&bih=528 Possibly an Aster.
thank you Silversurfer. I think you are right about the Aster and the Delphinium for the second picture but I'm still not sure about the first which has a definite purple tine and fringelike leaves
I cannot enlarge your pic for a close look. Still sure it is a Delphinium sp . There are many different ones, in many different colours. Not all have the fine leaves of D. grandiflorum though. http://www.missouriplants.com/Bluealt/Delphinium_ajacis_page.html http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgu...20gTh87TvAg&page=1&ndsp=23&ved=1t:429,r:8,s:0
Sorry, you misunderstood. You have made a giant leap from Delphinium..... to which variety it is. I haven't a clue which Delphinium yours is. Pic is too far away to even hazard a guess. I was just trying to show there is more than one with fine cut leaves and 2nd link showing one of a purplish colour
Not a giant leap actually; Delphinium ajacis fits in terms of colour and description...so do a few others. I really have no way of confirming one way or another but this got me past a hurdle in my searching.
I have just found out that Delphinium ajacis/ Delphinium ambigua had had a change of name to Consolida ajacis. Common name annual Larkspur. http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Ranunculaceae/Consolida_ambigua.html
