I am posting the following for new member FPLinda, die to attachment problems:

I recently bought a house in Delray Beach, FL. There are two large trees in front with above ground roots. I would like to know what type of trees they are and if I can cover the roots with about 6-8 inches of soil to plant impatients under the tree without causing damage to the trees.

    Thanks for your help.
    Linda

Spellcheck: Impatiens. Piling soil on trees is not recommended. It would look better if you could get grass to grow right up to them anyway, rather than ringing them with flowers, but clearly you cannot do either at this point with those emerging roots.

Perhaps a nice mulch beneath the trees would look nice.
