Re: What Hight Should My Vegetable Patch Be ????

I am new to this raised bed idea and I was wondering if any one had some advise for me and my mother-in-law. Here is the problem --We have an old flatbed trailer that has no tires or axiles, just the flatbed, we have it on cement blocks and we were pondering laying and old tarp down making several beds with cement blocks and pouring in the soil. How high do we need to go, what kind of plants can we plant in these beds, we were thinking tomatoes, cucumbers, okra, sweet corn; what kind of soil do we need since we are starrting completely from scratch? All imput would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance, Happysoutherngardner

Try to find the Square Foot Gardening book. It has details on building boxes that aren't actually sitting on the ground.

Short answer, as long as you have lots of compost available for the roots to feed on, they don't need much space.
