I saw this in NE Ohio today and can't seem to find an ID. The flower itself looks like phlox, but my book says we only have Blue Phlox here, and that ended its blooming season awhile ago.
Looks like ordinary garden phlox, Phlox paniculata, which is native in Ohio. http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?401812 and http://plants.usda.gov/java/county?state_name=Ohio&statefips=39&symbol=PHPA9 (note native and naturalized observations recorded on USDA PLANTS maps.) It could be native or a garden escapee.
Thanks, it's in a high foot/bike traffic area in a National Park, so I can see how it got established there. There are other non-natives as well, such as Catnip. I appreciate the ID! Tim
