    Hi there,

I was at the food garden at UBC Botanical Garden and I'm interested in the multi-stemmed cordons and Belgium Fence (I think that's what it is called: the criss-crossing cordon).

What is the lowest height recommended for the initial winter pruning of an M9 apple whip? (The above mentioned cordons looked like they were pruned back to only 25cm above the ground).

    cheers,
    Doug

As long as you are above the graft and there are several buds below your initial pruning cut the exact height is not that important. in a belgian fence design when using multiple trees try to be consistent, other than that your own personal conception will determine the height. Have fun with it and enjoy.
