At the end of a YouTube video, Iseli Nursery quietly dropped its upcoming addition to the Jack Frost series of Palmatum/Pseudosieboldianum crosses, ‘Alpenglow.’
The two photos attached show the spring and summer colors. One thing I am very curious about is how the summer color - sort of a red bronze? - compares to what folks are used to seeing in cultivars like Bloodgood and Emperor I.
For those of us in northern climes, this addition is great news, but if you all think the summer color appears significantly more drab than other red-leafed cultivars, maybe I’ll try zone stretching one of those instead. Would love folks’ input!

Tbh, although the nursery mentioned knows there stuff, I would think a broom ie Skeeters Broom would have a far longer season of deep red in your location. It does fair very well in most parts of the UK North and South. Quite a tough maple IMO.
Bloodgood and Emperor 1 are excellent cultivars, but can be a bit temperamental with late Spring frosts. Although the latter does leaf out a bit later.

The cultivator "Iiyama Sunago" would also give you that bronze summer coloration and likely suit your growing zone.

Thanks for all the responses! I should clarify that I would prefer a red or burgundy that endures well throughout the summer without greening out. I know that none of us has had a chance to observe Alpenglow in action, so this is all speculation. But I was curious if, judging by their preview photos, it appears to green/bronze out in summer significantly more than Emp1/BlGood does.

I'm sorry I can't help so much with the suggestions, but do you mind telling me which video it was? I'd love to go check it out.

Thank you! It looks like a nice one. I'm zone 4b in Wyoming so it might do well here. The new zone map says I may be 5a now, but I'm not going to invest too much into that just yet.
