I have a Marathon tall fescue lawn lawn being invaded by patches of a long fine grass with thin blades that look as thin as pine needles. The fine grass is very dense. I'd like to control it before it keeps spreading. Can anyone identify it?

Identification of the particular kind will not be required in order to undertake a typical control method like spot spraying with an herbicide that kills grasses. Of course, when this is done dead spots are left like those produced by dogs peeing on a lawn. Whereas simply mowing the different looking grass along with the rest would sublimate it visually. Speaking of visual effects, the main spoiling occurrence I see in your shots is that your mower blade needs to be sharpened. So that it does not cause the fescue to have brown tips all through the entire mowed area.
