I have trouble with holes in the leaves of my rhubarb plants and tried beer but it rained that night and there were no slugs in the dishes in the morning so I am thinking that maybe ants are the culprits and I have read that they do not like tansy but I am having trouble finding tansy seeds. Any ideas?

    jean,
Don't know about your neck of the woods but here in the PNW it is a noxious weed.
Per: "Noxious Weeds of Washington State.
    * biennial or short-lived perennial herb with a taproot and large woody rootstock
    * Toxic, can be lethal to horses and cattle, and to a lesser extent sheep and goats; establishes in disturbed areas , pastures and recently logged areas: prolific seed producer; seeds remain viable for 10 - 16 years".
You might just try to find something else. Beer works, but of course the rain does goof it up. Just buy cheap beer and carry on....barb

Thanks, Barb. According to some seed companies it is an herb. I tried the beer thinking the problem was slugs but now I suspect it is ants and supposedly ants are averse to tansy. Rhubarb leaves contain oxalic acid which doesn't seem to bother whatever is eating holes in those leaves. My neck of the woods is Atlantaic Northeast.
    Thanks again!
