fig tree

    Hi my name is Ann and i have a problem with my fig tree she is 3 years old and about 6 feet tall i started her from a stick and she now lives in the house with us. I live in central ny where it is very cold in the winter i don't know if she can live out side' if she can't how can i prune her to live in the house with us i am afraid to do this for fear of killing her. one more ? do i need 2 fig trees to have her produce fruit. thanks for your help Ann

    You can shorten the stems. Do a web search for "pruning figs" or look in a pruning book to learn details. Winter in New York would be fatal. No pollination is necessary to get figs, they aren't actually true fruits. The tiny flowers are inside the fig.

  4. I to have a fig tree in NY. I kept it outside over the winter but wrapped up and very warm. It is starting to grow leaves but only about three inches above the dirt. Can I cut the trunk back? Should I? Is this considered pruning?
