Since my grandfather passed, my fig tree has not been cared for. It is robust in leaves and it seems healthy, but has not produced figs since. Yesterday I finally cut it back because it was growing outward instead of up.

Is there a proper way to get my fruit to grow again?

Can you post a picture and give the size, age, variety, where it's growing ?

I can do that if I figure out how to post a pic...it's between 15 and 20 yrs. old. I have it growing up against the house in plentiful sunlight. I will post a pic tomorrow. Instead of growing upward, it grew outward and spread so I trimmed it back.

    You live in New York?
How do you care for it in the winter....I believe you are a zone 6b. Figs grow in zone 8 and upwards. Please post some pics.

Some fig trees even grown in Z5b! You just need to cover the tree during winter or bring it inside
