I have a fig tree which is very old and I live in Spain. The tree is very large and has plenty of fruit, however the fruit gets to about half the size it should be and then falls of the tree. Could you please advise as to what the problem may be.
Could it be pruned to get new wood. Also we have had a very dry summer [Australia] and mine has been pathetic. I have some ripe fruit but no where near the usual amount. May be it needs more water. Mine has been pruned severly to see what it will do for next year. It has not had a prune for about 10 years as it was being used as an arbour. The fruit was mainly going to the birds (black colured figs) I had some but I am the only one that likes them. Liz
Thank you for the advice will try more water this year as we pruned it back a bit last year but we are unable to prune it some more as the position it is in is not possible. There is lots of fruit on it at the moment so hopefully this year we will manage to eat some. Sharon
