I live in New York, Long Island & someone made cuttings of a fig tree today.

I have some questions: Where should I plant it inside, outside? Temperature during the day here will be in the 50's for another week or 2 & then will get colder. If plant outside or inside how??

If now was not the best time to do it, when should I do it & how???

    Thank you.

In my neck of the woods, I exclusively do fig cuttings in November: for whatever reason (factors internal to the cutting, I suppose) I have excellent results in Nov.

Easiest method would be to lay out a sheet of poly (say 2 feet long by 6 inches wide), spread your cutting mix on top, lay the fig cuttings side by side (with an inch or two between them) and roll the whole thing up. Bind it shut with tape or twine, stand it up (cutting tops up) and put it on a heat table, or failing that, somewhere sheltered. Resist the urge to check for roots until the spring....usually get 80% + rooting this way.
