I have a large fig tree that has been providing a good size crop every summer for more than 20 years. This year however the fruit has been dropping, with an area of rot at the end of the fruit - kind of like blossom end rot in tomatoes. I thought it might have been just the first crop of fruit, but it seems to be continuing with the main crop that is usually so productive. I practice benign neglect with this tree, and it has obviously responded well, for many years. I do occasionally water, but not too often, it's in rocky soil, and it is pruned from time to time. The rest of the tree appears healthy. Here in Roberts Creek the weather has been odd this year - wet, late Spring followed by a long period of dry hot weather. Hope someone will be able to help with information about this mystery.
