My neighbor planted a row of 10+ ficus plants along the foundation of our house. I have tried to get them to remove the ficus plants as I believe over time that they will be extremely harmful to my foundation.

Are there different types of ficus -- my neighbor says it is a noninvasive type of ficus. If so, can you name them.

Also, am I correct that ficus can become a problem for my foundation. Your thoughts.

I think that any tree planted against a house foundation would have the potential to wreak damage over time.
    Questions:
To which of the many species of ficus do these trees belong? Find out.
Is your neighbor within his/her legal rights to be planting anything along YOUR foundation? Find this out, too. Perhaps legal proceedings are in order.

Ficus elastica is commonly planted here in the south of Portugal. It definitely does cause problems with foundations, swimming pools, paths and drains etc. A fantastic tree but definitely not one to plant near buildings and services. A search on the web will bring up some official / goverment sites which will give you a list of trees not to plant in this situation and perhaps give some authority to your argument against this planting next to your house.

    Good Luck
