My mom bought a pot with 4 small (1ft to 1.5ft) tall ficus elastica ruby plants in it. She decided to pull two stalks out for me(the smaller ones) and put them in a pot. They came out with lots of roots attached and then went straight into their new pot. It's a small 4 inch clay pot. Question is, do you guys think they will survive the stress of being moved in that fashion? What can I do to better the chances of them surviving the move?

Find a cool shaded area outdoors to allow roots to recover.
    Expect some leaf drop.

Living in an apartment that's going to be tough. How about a west facing window in my bathroom? The windows are frosted and it stays pretty cool in there next to an open window.

By the way, I appreciate all the advice you've given me salt.

Doesn't sound promising but I'm not there to see it.
Maybe on a fire escape? You want bright light but no
direct sun until it shows signs of growth. Indoor air is
    typically too dry.

What about if I leave the window open?

It'd still be too dark I believe.

The rest of the windows in my place face Southeast. Would placing it in front of an open SE facing window do the trick?

Only if the window's open 24 hrs.

The window is open 24/7, at least until it starts getting colder.
