I have an 8 foot Ficus Benjamin that was given to me last year by a coworker. It was doing fine for the first few months then started emitting a stick sap-like substance on the leaves. Does anyone know what kind of bug I have and what I should by to kill the sickness? I have included pics. The 3rd pic is a closeup of the insect on a sheet of paper.
Your plant has an infestation of scale. There's no shortage of information on controlling this pest in these forums.
Thanks for the reply. I have been doing some reading on Scale and believe you were right on the money with your prognosis. I found an excellent article on scale at the Texas A & M website for those who are interested: http://theurbanrancher.tamu.edu/bugs/b6097.pdf
