I recently wrapped christmas lights around my meyer lemon tree, which has stopped the winter leaf drop problem I was having. Now the tree is starting to show small flower buds all over the tree, and I am excited. However, I am confused about fertilizing in winter. Is this a good thing or a no-no? I have read not to do this at all, but others say to fertilize every month. I assume if flowers are showing there may be a need for food, but I need to know for sure.

If the tree is growing outside, do not fertilize. If the tree is a container tree, growing in a warm location, such as a greenhouse, sunroom, or the like, you can fertilize at any time. Citrus bloom as a result of some type of stress, usually the cooler winter temperatures. Your tree is probably blooming from the stress of WLD (winter leaf drop). - Millet
