    hi all,
i have a few remaining patches of older forest on our property, and i think these spots would be ideal for ferns. Since there is so much potential for ferns around the garden, and there are many species native to the area, i was wondering if anyone had an idea of what ferns could be used for in permaculture design?
i've been told the young fronds of some species are good to eat, but i was wondering more about uses in terms of other plants, any known guilds involving ferns, or whether they preform any functions like soil improvement or deter pests
    thanks!
