    In my foraging experience, bananas rival cattail in their utility and versatility. My opinion is subject to whim. I can believe that there is some medical utility, but if indigenous Andaman Islanders say it cures diabetes, I might not trust their data. That's not whimsy on my part.

    I'm a little more intrigued with the seed bearing aspect. Bananas can use a bit more research by groups like ECHO in keeping the gene pool alive and vigorous. I'm not following the projected decline in the genus Musa, but seem to recall that the lack of viable seed was potentially part of the problem.
