We purchased and planted new Fat Albert pine trees last spring. They were watered regularly throughout the summer months. We live in Alaska so it also rains frequently. It looks like they survived the winter but a few of the branches on all of them are turning brown. The brown branches actually started at the end of last summer. Are they being over -watered? Do we need to fertilize them? Do we need to find a way to get them more drainage? The soil is somewhat clay and sandy?
The common tree sold under the cultivar name 'Fat Albert' is a Colorado spruce rather than a pine. You may have a pest or disease appearing on yours. If you cannot show the affected parts here via good photos or have access to the Cooperative Extension Service network where you are (look for Alaska Cooperative Extension to see what may be available) then try looking up information about pests and diseases of Colorado spruce and which may occur in your area.
