Hi- I am looking for a fast growing full evergreen to plant for screening from my neighbor. Whatever I plant has to be somewhat shade tolerant and deer resistant. The site is shaded in the morning by towering Austrian pines. It gets sun in the afternoons. I am wondering if hemlocks can withstand deer grazing or some sort of cedar. White pines may be ok but i don't want them to be leggy and I wonder if there are diseases affecting them. The soil is rather sandy. I live outside of Detroit and would welcome any new suggestions or confirmation of my thoughts. Thanks.
