Anyone had much experience ? My F. nitida has been going to seed for the last 2 years. This year I collected seed, and successfully germinated some ( very low %), but the little seedlings are sprouting up all around the mother as well. I have dug some up, and potted them up to the greenhouse along with the seeds I started. They all seem to be doing well. I wanted to leave a few seedlings around the base of the mother plant, but they already seem to be fading a bit. Has anyone had self seeded seedling F. nitida that's successfully survived our BC winter? They are tiny little sprouts 1-2 cm or so, a couple leaves. I'm not sure if they germinate better when let to self seed, or it's the shear volumne of seeds that has created this. The ones potted up a couple months ago now have several shoots and are 4-5 cm.
