    half of the ALS victims in Montchavin reported a time when they had acute mushroom poisoning. And according to Spencer, the human body may also metabolize gyromitrin into a compound that, over time, might lead to similar DNA damage as cycad seeds.

    The article does comment that correlation is not causation

    And yes, I do think this has come up earlier in this forum.
    In the Pacific Northwest of NA we have different species than this, but how chemically related they are is an interesting question

    I suspect scientists looking for the cause of ALS will not take this correlation too seriously.
