I was at a today and came across this lovely conifer that was nameless. The nursery was uncertain of what it was, but suggested it may be a false cypress. It has very soft bluish foliage. It would look beautiful in my yard,however not knowing what it actually is makes determining its size a bit tricky! Can anyone help?
Thank you for your answers. I have looked the tree up and see that it could be either 6 - 8 feet, or huge. Huge would be problematic! Any guesses? What does under-potted mean?
It grows to 10-20 metres tall eventually (in 60-100 years). Under-potted means it should really be in a pot about twice the diameter and twice the depth, if it is to have healthy roots in balance with the plant's size.
I bought this tree in November 2011. it was identified as a Sawara Cypress Chamaecyparis pisifera per the thread below. 2.5 years later it now looks like this. Is it still a Cypress? I am concerned it isn't as slow growing as anticipated and may become too big for where I have put it. Any suggestions?
Yes, still a cypress. It'll make quite a large tree eventually, this cultivar is known to reach over 20 metres tall on occasion.
The risks in moving it are fairly high, it would need a lot of expertise in moving, and a lot of after-care, to be successful.
