Since for most of you gardenning is basic over with (here in Southwest France the ground never freezes and I can keep gardening, moving and planting maples, throughout the winter), here are some pics of my adult Japanese Maples this Fall. Just to enjoy. Gomero
The large yellow maples are A. palmatums grown from seed. I do not know the the origin. One is 15 years old and already 7-8 m. high, multitrunked, with beautiful green bark. One mediun yellow is A. P. Matsuyoi. The red dissectum in the fourth pic I am not sure. After 12 years is barely 2 ft high and 6 ft diameter mound. It stays red and does not bronze out in the summer, very good fall colors, any ideas? Regards, Gomero
Great pictures Gomero ! Thanks ! Does your 15 years old tree produce seeds ? If yes, do you remember when it first gave seeds ? Thank you ;-)
André, Thank you. They give seeds every year, but I do not remember when they gave for the first time. Gomero
Anyway, we know now that an Acer palmatum grown from seed is mature before 15 years old. That's a beginning of an answer for this thread : http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=6980 ;-)
