Sheila said that Douglas said that we'd better get out there and check out the colours right now, rain or shine, and rain it was. Wind too. I was surprised how much reflection there was off some of the leaves, since there was no sun. This Euonymus carnosis is on the right, just after the entrance gate, if I remember correctly. I had some remedial work to do on some maples I missed getting last week. Here's Acer japonicum 'Aconitifolium'. I had more time to look at the Acer japonicum 'O-isami', which has pretty amazing colours. On the other side, near the Carolinian garden, is this Aronia melanocarpa. Sorry about the blob of water on the lens. The third photo is Oxydendrum arboreum. This Liquidambar stood alone, but over where there were a little grove of them are tons of mushrooms. I neglected to note the name of this Sorbus near the entrance, maybe 'Joseph Rock'?, which is being featured at VanDusen this week. I'm sure there's a huge sign right in front of it. [edited by wcutler 2010nov08: I saw the tag on this tree today, and it does indeed say 'Joseph Rock'.] I didn't go look at what this was.
