Can anyone tell me their experiences with Stranvaesia davidiana in the Seattle area (Zone 8)? I am considering it for my landscape because it produces berries to feed the birds.
Which then spread it around. Probably enough of these coming up wild by now to consider it a weed and stop planting it. Other non-natives that the birds plant by the thousands in gardens and woods here are holly, ivy and laurel (English and Portugal). Try planting something native instead, like one of the locally native mountain ash species (not Sorbus aucuparia!), Oregon grape, western serviceberry or Indian plum for the birds. At least if a bunch of those pop up as a result they belong in this region. Or choose an exotic ornamental with showy fruits that does not come up wild in this area.
