    The Public Health Association of BC is pleased to announce the launch of a new program, Every Lawn A Garden. Every Lawn A Garden's mission is for every household in BC to have a food garden (a 'local' food supply) and for every community in BC to increase the capacity of its local food supply through a system of community and local gardens. Every Lawn a Garden operates on a partnership model, working with municipal governments, community organizations, employers, citizens, and others to promote food producing gardens, and is supported by an online gardening community to connect people, organizations, and ideas.

    As part of this program, Every Lawn A Garden is sponsoring a Gardening Promotion Through Creative Media Contest, to stimulate creative messages promoting the concept of local food producing gardens.

    Entries will be accepted in the categories of:

    * Printed material (i.e. posters, signs, flyers, etc)
    * Audio clips (15 – 30 seconds)
    * Video clips (15 – 60 seconds - think YouTube!)

    Entries will be judged on quality, creativity, and clarity, and must be received by June 30, 2007. A winner will be selected from each category of creative media, and awarded a $100 prize. Let the creativity begin!

    The above quote is from the original post. This is a step in the right direction. It will take a lot of promotion. I have not heard anything about this subject on the CBC, which could and should be a promoter of such a plan.

    I live in Southern Ontario, which is an ideal growing area, and find the backyard vegetable garden almost non-existant. Vegetable gardening is fast becoming a lost art in Canada.

    A very small area is cabable of producing a lot of food, with little effort. The small roto-tillers take all of the bull work out of gardening. I certainly hope this program succeeds.
    I offer my blog as a small step in the Garden Initiative.
