Evergreen ground cover in old stone quarry

    Please help us identify this evergreen ground cover. I have actually seen this growing in other shaded areas in other parks. It only grows about 4" tall and never seems to spread more than a few feet, so either the deer like it or it does not spread easily.

    Not invasive at all - it requires very specialised growing conditions, and is close to (if not completely) impossible to grow deliberately or transplant to new sites. Very intolerant of disturbance, grazing, wildfire, habitat damage, etc., and endangered in many areas. You are very lucky to find it at all!
