hi, i was given this eucalyptus tree and have no idea what to do with it. I firstly repotted it in peat to read somewhere this was not a good idea so i then repottedit in ordinary garden earth. The leaves have gone very brittle adn are very sparse on the plant. I would like to keep it but not sure what conditions it needs. Can anyone help. thanks
Garden soil in a container will not drain well enough, specially for a eucalyptus. Perhaps you have pre-made "container gardening soil" available there, which is blended to give the roots enough air and water in a container like yours. Even better, the tree would probably love to be in the ground. In Ireland, I'm sure you have tons of these trees growing beautifully in landscapes. Hopefully you will see new growth popping out now or soon...the old leaves may fall off this unhappy plant, but try to improve things for it and it will often grow quickly.
