myself and a co-worker are getting ready to start training a 'little gem' magnolia into an espalier. does anyone have any good ideas on how to start out? we have made these tiny little weights we are going to attach to selected limbs to have them start growing in the traditional cordon (i think that is right) method. it is planted against a brick wall, so we will be able to mount something for it to grow on. we are not even sure if this will work with the magnolia, i have really only seen it done with different fruiting trees. suggestions are much appreciated.
