    Hello,
I'm new to this forum. I am about to plant eight heritage apple varieties (semi dwarf root stock, 1 yr. old whips) on my newly cleared south facing slope. Internet research gives me conflicting directions on siting the espalier trellis. For the Gulf Islands, should I run the trellis north/south to take advantage of the western sun, or east/west for the south exposure? If it is to be north/south, the southern most tree will be at the bottom of the slope. If east/west then they will all be on the same elevation. I was going to plant at 10 ' apart, with the posts between the whips and the wire at 2', 4', 6' and 8'. This might be interesting if I run the trellis north/south. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Whatever gives each specimen as much exposure as possible.
