My wife and I are hunting for apple trees to espalier for a fence this year. I have contacted a well-known supplier of fruit trees that would provide bare root up to 7/8" for our favorite varieties. We were planning on working with semi-dwarf, here in Central Illinois, zone 5a.

Any other recommendations for growers, suppliers, advice? Much appreciated.

For an espaliered tree, most references recommend fully dwarf rootstocks rather than semi-dwarf, if you don't want to spend all your time pruning.
