These nuts are amazing when fresh off the tree (I can't stand them otherwise). I'm planning on planting a couple of 3-year old seedlings (Juglans Regia roots), Russian variety, and I'm having a hard time finding a good spot for them.

I have some room in front yard, but I'm concerned tree might damage water lines, driveway etc when it grows older.

My backyard is mostly wooded (typical North Carolina stuff, fairly old growth)--but there are some spots I'd call semi-clearings, towards the south side where they could get some light.

Anybody know if that would be enough light for them, and if they have a chance to survive/grow in such an area towards the edge of a wooded lot? Any help or input would be appreciated.

You'll either have to clear a space for an orchard (in this case a nut orchard) or make do with what you have.

I'm not really looking for a full nut orchard, just a couple of plants. Thinking very long term here. :)
So you're saying they can survive in a somewhat shaded area?
