    Dear Grafting Specialist:

I really need your help today. My brother two days ago mutilated our 17 year old Japanese Acer Maple (once a Gorgeous Shape), and I hope to perform emergency grafts on the lower trunk and upon higher limbs to fill holes using cut stems. I placed the cuttings in water (with and without leaves), and I need to quickly learn whether I should use the refrigerator for 90 days or until November to graft scions, or should I graft right away using what types of grafts; and should I prepare the scions with or without leaves or half leaves and how many, and should I bud graft. What should be the skinniest stem? I am totally new at this, having reading-knowledge only about grafts. You can call me for a quick reply at 630 708 2336. Thank you so much for your help. Carl
