The Bloedel Conservatory promoted their display of Echium pininana 'Snow Tower', seems like last week, but it was around April 19, saying they would be planting some out in a few parks, one of which is Morton Park, near me in the West End. In the next posting, I'll add the conservatory plants and the info sign, which says that these need to be brought in for the winter. On the facebook page, the Bloedel person wrote: "The species usually has blue/purple flowers, and only the 'Snow Tower' variety has white flowers." In this photo, 'Snow Tower' is on the left, white flowers and green stalk. The non-cultivar individual on the right has no flowers, has a red stalk. Here are Echium pininana, just starting to have some flowers: These are the E. pininana 'Snow Tower':
I just noticed an Echium pininana 'Snow Tower' at Roedde House, city-owned square block consisting of public park, three public facilities, and several rental houses. Being city property, I assume the Vancouver Park Board maintains it.
