I have read about the usefulness of earth worms in the garden (areration as well as fertilization of the soil.... in addition to its use for fishing) so I am very careful not to damage the worms (for fear of reduced population) while working in the garden. Sometimes when the soil is moist or wet and I use shovel I see many worms cut in two pieces so I tend to use fork to avoid cutting the worms when shovel is really needed. My question is if it is true as I had heard sometimes ago that when a worm is cut then both pieces of the worm survive and live (which may mean that one cut end creates an input and the other piece creates an output organ)?
I found an interesting blurb on this topic at this website: http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/natbltn/700-799/nb751.htm Fascinating! Lori
